Four battalions trained under NATO standards, one more to follow, - Defense Minister Poltorak

More than 2,000 Ukrainian servicemen have been trained by foreign military instructors.

As reported by Censor.NET citing Liga, this was announced by Defense Minister of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak in an interview to the Narodna Armiia (People's Army) frontline newspaper published by the ministry.

"This only includes the territory of Ukraine. Four battalions have been trained under NATO standards, the fifth one is to follow," Poltorak said.

The minister says British instructors teach Ukrainian soldiers how to fight in cities and cross country.

"The British have many years of war experience in Afghanistan against Taliban fighters. However, these combat activities could not be compared to those conducted by Ukraine against Russian invaders armed with tanks and heavy artillery, so the British try and learn as much from Ukrainians as they teach us," Poltorak said.

The minister added that the U.K. intended to increase by several times its military aid for Ukraine in the near future. In 2017, British instructors plan to train about 5,000 Ukrainian servicemen under the NATO standards.

Poltorak says that at the moment the first stage of creation of the Training Center for Special Operation Forces is being finished with support from the U.S., the Baltic states, and Canada. Instructors for the Center are being trained as well.

"We've had two graduations. The plan stipulates that in December, we will move to further selection of candidates for the third round of instructors training," the defense minister said.Источник: https://censor.net.ua/en/n418016
