Poroshenko on visa free travel to EU: “We still hope this issue to be resolved before Nov. 24”

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko promises to do his best to achieve progress in addressing the issue of visa waiver project before Ukraine-EU Summit scheduled for Nov. 24.

As reported by Censor.NET referring to Interfax-Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko said at a press conference after talks with Prime Minister of Sweden Stefan Löfven in Stockholm on Monday.

"There is still hope and I will make every effort to ensure it (granting Ukrainians visa-free travel to the EU - Ed.)," Poroshenko said.

He recalled that Ukraine had fulfilled all the criteria necessary to obtain a visa-free regime with the European Union which was acknowledged by the EU leaders, European Council and European Commission senior officials.

"There are actually issues that have absolutely nothing to do with Ukraine today. For example, a mechanism to suspend a visa waiver program," the head of state said.

According to Poroshenko, the European Parliament should make the decision.

"The leaders of the major European Parliament's groups have clearly expressed their support for granting Ukraine a visa-free travel. They just need to find the formula that will allow demonstrating progress. It's advisable, and I very much hope that this happens before the Ukraine-EU Summit," the president said.
