Former NATO chief says Europe should applaud e-declarations system launch in Ukraine

Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the former NATO secretary-general, called the introduction of the Internet-based Unified State Registry of State Officials' Declarations in Ukraine an important step in the fight against corruption which the whole of Europe should applaud for.

According to the former NATO chief, a keen interest taken both by Ukrainian citizens and thousands of officials who have submitted income statements (e-declarations) demonstrates a strong will to fight corruption. He added that Ukraine had taken an important step to break with corruption and ensure transparent and efficient state administration.

The former NATO secretary-general stressed that the income statements filed by the Ukrainian officials were of paramount importance, and the whole of Europe should turn attention to this and applaud this important step.

Rasmussen believes that it is a remarkable system, more advanced than those used in many Western countries.

As reported, Rasmussen was appointed a non-staff adviser to the president of Ukraine in May 2016 and later convened the Friends of Ukraine group.
