Lack of teeth demonstrated by government may end up with vigilante justice, - Tuka on Medianyk’s release

Ex-member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Medianyk (Party of Regions) must “do porridge” rather than be at large.

This was stated by Deputy Minister for Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons, former Head of the Luhansk regional military and civil state administration Heorhii Tuka, Censor.NET reports citing Gordon.

"Medianyk's release from the remand prison caught me by surprise. This news alarms me. I cannot say that I am satisfied that Medyanik was set free. The men like him must do porridge instead of walking freely in Kyiv or other Ukrainian cities," Tuka stressed.

The deputy minister expressed hope that the criminal proceedings against Medianyk were ceased as he had taken a plea bargain and testified against more important officials of Yanukovych regime. However, Tuka said he hardly believed it was possible.

According to the official, if the authorities continue demonstrating such a lack of teeth with regard to those involved in the creation of the "Luhansk People's Republic," it may end up with vigilante justice.

Medianyk was detained in early August 2016. Prosecutor General Yurii Lutsenko said he was a suspect in the case of former Head of Party of Regions parliamentary faction Oleksandr Yefremov.

Earlier, on the morning of July 30, Yefremov was detained in Boryspil airport on suspicion of infringement of territorial integrity of Ukraine. The detention was intended to prevent possible escape of the suspect. In the evening the same day he was served with an indictment.

Aug.1, the Pechersk district court of Kyiv applied a measure of restraint against former head of the Party of Regions parliamentary faction Oleksandr Yefremov in the form of detention until Sept. 28.
