This was stated by Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Ihor Nasalyk during the hour of questions to the government in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Censor.NET reports citing 112 Ukraine TV channel.
The minister also thanked the parliament for its efforts on the construction of the spent fuel storage facility which will help diversify its disposal.
"Ukraine paid $200 million annually for the disposal of spent nuclear fuel. We are going to keep these funds starting from 2017 as we have got our own spent fuel storage facility," Nasalyk said.
As reported, Ukraine has been previously delivering its spent nuclear fuel in Russia for disposal and storage which required annual expenditures of $150-200 million.
