PACE questions Duma legitimacy, urges Russia to return Crimea to Ukraine

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe calls upon the Russian Federation to reverse the annexation of Crimea and let Ukraine regain control over the occupied peninsula.

Censor.NET reports referring to the PACE resolution adopted on Wednesday.

"The assembly calls on the Russian authorities to reverse the illegal annexation of Crimea and allow Ukraine to regain control of the peninsula," the document reads.

PACE also calls for lifting the banning of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, declared to be "an extremist organisation."

The assembly also calls for full and unrestricted access to the Crimean Peninsula of all human rights bodies of the Council of Europe in order for them to carry out their monitoring activities unimpeded and in accordance with their mandates.

According to the resolution, international pressure against Russia, including sanctions, must be maintained until its aggression has ceased and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders has been fully restored.

PACE condemns the illegal Duma elections held on Sept. 18 in occupied Crimea and considers their results null and void.
