US-Russia tensions more dangerous than in Cold War times, - Steinmeier

Tensions between Washington and Moscow have created a situation that is "more dangerous" than the Cold War.

Germany's Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier wrote in an opinion article published by Bild on Saturday, Oct.8, Censor.NET reports citing DW.

"It's a fallacy to think that this is like the Cold War. The current times are different and more dangerous. But in spite of all the frustration, disappointment and deep distrust on both sides, we must continue to search for ways to put an end to the insanity in Syria. The U.S. and Russia must continue to talk," Steinmeier wrote.

The minister laid the blame mostly on Russia for "provoking" a new Cold War but, unlike the Cold War-era, in which the U.S. and Russia had "red lines and respected them," the new multi-polar environment has more regional conflicts making geopolitics "more unpredictable."
