The UN Security Council will recommend High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres for the post of the ninth United Nations secretary-general.

Censor.NET reports referring to UNIAN quoting head of Ukraine's Permanent Mission to the UN Volodymyr Yelchenko.

"As a result of today's vote, the UN Security Council will recommend Antonio Guterres (Portugal) as the next UN secretary-general. Guterres won 13 votes, while no permanent member used its veto. Tomorrow, the Security Council will have to formally approve the candidate before the General Assembly votes on him," the diplomat said.
