Ukraine interested in receiving lethal weapons from the West, - Poroshenko

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko announced that Ukraine remains interested in receiving lethal weapons for its Armed Forces from the West.

As reported by Censor.NET citing Interfax-Ukraine, he said at the meeting with the Ukrainian community in New York City.

"The second most important (after extension of sanctions against Russia - ed.) but not least important issue is provision of lethal weapons and other military technologies to Ukrainian Armed Forces," the president said.

According to him, the Ukrainian army has proven over the past two and a half years that it can be relied upon and trusted.

"At the early start of my presidential tenure, our U.S. partners were saying that they have 100-percent information that half of Ukrainian army is corrupt, and another half are KGB agents," Poroshenko said.

He noted that Ukraine has built a new professional army over the past two years which meets all the required criteria.

"We have demonstrated that Ukraine never waged and never would wage wars of aggression; the Ukrainian side never posed a threat, and it is absolutely safe to pass us the lethal weapons. We will fight for our land till the last drop of blood," Poroshenko stressed.

The president of Ukraine added that the aggressor will most probably not launch another offensive "if Ukraine is supported by the entire world, including the U.S., in military cooperation sector."
