Ukrainian swimmer Yevhen Bohodaiko claimed a gold medal in the men's 100m backstroke at Rio Paralympic Games.

Censor.NET reports citing the statement by Ukraine's National Paralympic Committee.

"Ukraine, while you are still sleeping, our Paralympians show decent Ukrainian results here!!! We have just won gold for Ukraine - Yevhen Bohodaiko has claimed a gold medal in the men's 100m breaststroke (1:10.55)!!!"

This award is also important not only because it is the first gold at Rio Paralympics, but also due to the fact that Yevhen has claimed it in the discipline that is not his favorite one - 100 m backstroke. He overcame Great Britain's Paralympic champion Jonathan Fox, who trained to compete in this event only. It should be noted that athlete from Poltava Bohodaiko trained to compete in six disciplines and two relays. We wish him further victories and more medals of our team! Cheer for us! Your support is our victory!" the statement by the Committee reeds.
