Rada approves statement against Senate, Sejm's recognition of Volyn tragedy as genocide

The Ukrainian parliament has approved the text of the statement by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in connection with the adoption of resolutions of July 7, 2016 and July 22, 2016 by the Sejm and the Senate of the Republic of Poland concerning the Volyn tragedy.

The draft resolution No. 5095 was supported by 247 deputies with the required minimum of 226 votes.

Representatives of different political forces concluded that Poland, Ukraine and the Baltic States should combine all their resources in the fight against the common enemy - the Russian aggressor.

Speaker Andrii Parubii voiced the initiative to adopt a statement by the five parliaments (Poland, Ukraine and the Baltic countries) on the condemnation of Moscow and Nazi imperialism on Sept. 17 - the day of the Red Army's invasion of Poland.

Parubii also noted that "a comprehensive rather than one-sided assessment of our events [in history - ed.] should be given."
