Avakov on Mykolaiv brawlers: "Detainees have no influential relatives, so hardly anyone will distract my attention from this case"

Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov promises to take the case of Mykolaiv reach kids to its logical conclusion as well as fire the patrol police officers who failed to detain them.

As reported by Censor.NET, Interior Minister said on air of TSN.Tyzhden TV show.

"The troublemakers were identified the next day and they were arrested. They were served notices of suspicion. Mykolaiv patrol police officers were recruited during a new wave among 16,000 others. Trust me, I was watching this video and seething with outrage. The measures suggested by Head of the Patrol Police of Ukraine Yevhen Zhukov will be efficient," he said.

Avakov added that the majority of the patrol police officers, who had not coped with the situation, would be dismissed and will never serve in the police again.

"I scrutinized the case files. The detainees have got no influential relatives, so hardly anyone will distract my attention from this case. These brawlers were served notices of formal charges filed against them. I hope this case will be referred to court soon enough," the Minister of Internal Affairs explained.

"The problem is that the post-Soviet and post-Yanukovych era police is evolving into the whole new level. And this process does not pass fast. It will not happen quickly. We will stumble and fall, make mistakes, evidence such horrible incidents, but this process is inevitable. I will paraphrase a standard author saying obvious thing: "It is better to err, fall but move forward for five years, than be at a standstill for half a century," Arsen Avakov stated.

As reported earlier, at around 1 a.m. Aug. 30, several drunken men put up a brawl. They beat up a taxi driver, used foul language and attacked passers-by. Five police crews arrived at the scene but failed to calm the conflict. According to witnesses, patrol officers ignored the beating of people as well as threats and insults by the brawlers.
