266 persons killed, 429 injured as a result of Russian troops’ act of perfidy near Ilovaisk, prosecutor general says

Lutsenko has submitted a report on Ilovaisk related, in particular, to the balance of forces of the Russian occupation troops and the Ukrainian Army.

Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yurii Lutsenko unveiled findings of the criminal investigation into Ilovaisk tragedy at a meeting of the Committee on Defense and National Security, Censor.NET reports.

He said that several Ukrainian volunteer battalions were surrounded as a result of the invasion of the city of Ilovaisk by the Russian troops in August 2014. According to the prosecutor general, the peak of the invasion was attained at 4 a.m. Aug. 24, 2014.

The enemy forces consisted of nine battalion task groups including 60 tanks and the same number of guns. Lutsenko also disclosed the balance of the Ukrainian and Russian forces in Ilovaisk: manpower - 1 to 18, tanks - 1 to 11, armored vehicles - 1 to 16, artillery - 1 to 16, multiple rocket launchers - 1 to 24 in the advantage of Russia.

"266 persons were killed, 429 received injuries, 300 were captured as a result of the Russian troops' act of perfidy," Lutsenko stressed.

He said that the notices of suspicion were served to 18 persons from among the Russian Federation Army commanders starting with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoygu. All the suspects will be tried in absentia.

"They have two options: either trial in Kyiv or in The Hague. There is no third option," Lutsenko summed up.
