"In March 2014, these colonels failed to arrive at deployment sites in mainland Ukraine, instead choosing to stay in the temporarily occupied territory and take the oath of allegiance to the Russian Federation. In addition, they assisted the foreign state in seizing a military unit and all its assets," the statement notes.

Their actions fall under part 1, article 111 (high treason) and part 2, article 408 (desertion with arms or by prior conspiracy among a group of persons) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
