Patrol police recruitment drive seeking 1,000 officers to kick off soon, - National Police spokesperson

The Interior Ministry is about to launch a new recruitment of patrol officers.

As reported by Censor.NET, this was announced by Interior Ministry spokesman Artem Shevchenko after the scandal around a recent drunken incident in Mykolaiv.

"The cowardice and spinelessness of Mykolaiv patrol officers will be punished, no doubt about that... Moreover, a patrol police recruitment drive will kick off soon for 1,000 new officers to be enrolled. A massive information campaign will precede. And I really wonder how many of those having hysterics, wringing hands and saying "oh, things are bad and all is lost, the reform failed" will try to take responsibility and come to serve citizens and the law. Police officers from other countries or planets will not come...

"It's not that easy to calm a raging thug with special equipment so that, God forbid, he is not hurt or offended a bit over the norm, or otherwise the whole country will denounce the actions. It's not that easy to be a police officer. It's much easier to be rude and use foul language in the face," Shevchenko said.

As previously reported, several drunken men put up a brawl in Mykolaiv downtown Aug. 30. They beat up a taxi driver, used foul language and attacked passers-by. Five police crews arrived at the scene but failed to calm the conflict. According to witnesses, patrol officers ignored the beating of people as well as threats and insults by the assailants.

Later on, people's deputy Anton Herashchenko said criminal proceedings will be instituted into the fact of immoral behavior of drunken representatives of the so-called "elite youth," while police officers who declined to perform their duties will be fired upon the results of official investigation. He also noted that the brawlers will be put on the wanted list should they fail to show up for questioning.Источник: https://censor.net.ua/en/n403814
