"The conversation evolved around investigation of circumstances and reasons behind the Ilovaisk tragedy [when several hundred Ukrainian soldiers were killed in August 2014 near Ilovaisk in 'green corridor' organized by pro-Russian militants - ed.]. Storozhuk noted that a unique military expertise has just finished, which had lasted for almost a year and involved 31 leading experts and officers from the Defense Ministry of Ukraine, the Anti-terrorist center of the Security Service of Ukraine, the National Guard of Ukraine, and the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine," the press service reported.

"Having this expertise will allow preparing a criminal investigation for sending the case to court," the PGO stressed.

In August 2015 Chief Military Prosecutor of Ukraine Anatolii Matios reported of 366 killed, 429 wounded, 158 missing in action and 128 captured Ukrainian soldiers and law enforcers during disentangling via 'green corridor' from Ilovaisk in August 2014.

Military Prosecutor's Office said the 1,000 strong Ukrainian forces opposed 16,000 Russian military in Ilovaisk battles two years ago. The anti-terrorist operation (ATO) forces lost weapons and military equipment worth 298.3 million UAH ($13 million) in those combat activities with mercenaries and Russian military. Matios is certain the main cause of the tragedy was treacherous invasion of Russian troops in the rear of ATO forces.
