The Head of Kyiv National Police Andrii Kryshchenko told 112 TV Channel, Censor.NET reports.
Kryshchenko said the case is being investigated as a murder related to the journalist's professional activity, although circumstances indicate it was a suicide.
"Criminal proceedings have been opened under article 115 (felonious homicide) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Until there are no facts established, until there is no examination carried out (a forensic medical examination as well), we are investigating it as a murder. At the same time, the National Police have two versions of Shchetinin's death: suicide and murder related to his professional activity," Kryshchenko said.
He noted that the door to Shchetinin's apartment was closed, but one of his friends had the keys. He also did not comment on the contents of the suicide note.
"We are familiar with it [content of the suicide note - Ed.], but I will not comment, it's a personal matter," the official said.
As reported earlier, friends of Alexander Shchetinin found him dead on the balcony of his own apartment on Kostiantynivska Street today, Aug.28.
Alexander Shchetinin was a famous blogger and founder of the Novyi Region news agency. The journalist gave up his Russian citizenship and became a citizen of Ukraine. Shchetinin called Vladimir Putin his personal enemy and criticized 'fascist dictatorship' established in Russia by Putin.
