Decision on visa-free regime to be made only in October, - deputy prime minister for European integration

Ivanna Klympush-Tsyntsadze has announced that the visa-free travel for Ukrainians should be approved by the European Parliament.

Both the Ukraine-EU summit and the decision on the visa-free travel should be expected in the fall, most likely in October, Censor.NET reports citing Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Ivana Klympush-Tsyntsadze as saying on air of 112 Ukraine.

"We are waiting for this decision [on the visa-free regime - ed.] to be made in the fall as there also should be a decision by the EP, first of all, by its Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs which then submits it to the European Parliament for consideration. A European Council decision taken by a qualified majority is also necessary. I think we are talking about the coming months, probably in October," she said.

Commenting on a statement by RFE/RL correspondent in Brussels Rikard Jozwiak that the summit, which was to be held in May, is likely to be held in the fall, the deputy prime minister noted there is nothing surprising about it since the leadership of Ukraine and the EU were to meet in June.

"I read the news and I was surprised. There was a mini-summit, let's say, with the participation of the president of Ukraine, the president of the European Council, the president of the European Commission, the president of the European Parliament at the end of June, where it was agreed that a full-fledged summit with the participation of heads of member states will be held in the fall. So, I don't understand what triggered the novelty of this message by a separate journalist. Nothing new has happened," Klympush-Tsyntsadze remarked.
