Progress in Donbas conflict settlement needed urgently, Chancellor Merkel says

The Minsk agreements contribute to preventing more bloodshed in the Donbas.

As reported by Censor.NET citing ZN.UA, this was announced by German chancellor Angela Merkel in an interview with Passauer Neue Presse.

"The process continues," she said as translated from German. "The Minsk agreement remain the basis of our current efforts. They are recognized by every party. They help preventing even worse bloodshed. However, it's true that we need progress urgently," the German Chancellor added.

"So I will continue working on peace making in Ukraine together with president of France, president of Ukraine and Russia," she said.

Earlier, French President François Hollande called on preservation of the so-called Normandy format, which was recently criticized as 'meaningless' by Russian President Putin.

Hollande said the task should not be complicated with escalation.

Even earlier, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko discussed Russian provocations in Crimea with French President François Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
