Ukraine celebrates National Flag Day

Ukraine celebrates the Day of the National Flag today, Aug. 23. A number of events are planned to be held in Kyiv in this regard.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko will take part in the flag-raising ceremony at St. Sofia Square in Kyiv at 9 a.m.

The flag-raising ceremony will also be held near the building of the Kyiv City Council at 9:30 a.m.

Art and signing performances are scheduled in the capital throughout the day. Flash mobs and other entertainment will be held on Khreshchatyk Street, with parks of the capital city hosting mass cultural events. An exhibition of photos of the anti-terrorist operation soldiers is going to be held at St. Sofia Square.

As reported, the Kyiv City State Administration blocked traffic in the Podilskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts Aug. 23 due to the flag-raising ceremony.

Then-President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma instituted Aug. 23 as the Day of the Ukrainian National Flag by his decree in 2004. President Viktor Yushchenko amended the decree in 2009 by establishing the official annual flag-raising ceremony throughout Ukraine Aug. 23.Источник: https://censor.net.ua/en/n402774
