Ukraine’s MoD Intelligence Agency on gunfight in occupied Crimea: Russian military and border guards failed to identify each other

The Russian occupying forces’ detachments in Crimea failed to timely identify each other and opened fire on the night of Aug. 7.

The shootout between the Russian military in Crimea was caused by the invaders' inability to timely identify each other, Censor.NET reports citing Lіga.

Spokesman for the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine's Defense Ministry Vadym Skibitskyi announced at a press briefing.

He said that the incident occurred near the city of Armiansk on the night of Aug. 7.

"Indeed there was a skirmish between the soldiers of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and Russian border guards. The main reason was that these units failed to timely carry out friend-or-foe identification which resulted in gunfire from both sides," Skibitskyi explained.

MoD Intelligence Agency representative added that the participants of the skirmish sustained casualties. The information on the dead and wounded is being clarified.
