US Department of State on Russia's allegations on Crimea: "Real issue is Russia’s occupation of Crimea and continued aggression in eastern Ukraine"

Spokesperson to the U.S. Department of State Elizabeth Trudeau says that the Russian Federation's recent allegations on Ukraine's involvement in "subversive activities" in Russian-occupied Crimea should not distract the United States from the real issue Russia has created in Ukraine.

As reported by Censor.NET, Elizabeth Trudeau told a briefing on Wednesday, Aug. 10.

"We don't want to be distracted from the real issue here, which is not only Russia's occupation and attempted annexation of Crimea, but their continued aggression in eastern Ukraine. Our view on Crimea is well known. Crimea is and will always be part of Ukraine. We condemn and call for an immediate end to the Russian occupation of Crimea, and our Crimea-related sanctions will remain in place until Russia returns the peninsula to Ukraine," she said.

I'm not in a position to confirm it, but we are directly in touch with Ukrainians as well."

The Ukrainian MoD refuted the FSB's allegations on the involvement of Ukraine's intelligence in subversive activities in Crimea and called them an attempt of the Russian Federation to justify its aggression in the territory of the annexed peninsula.

The Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine's MoD denies the information about an alleged breakthrough of Ukrainian "subversive and terrorist groups" in the territory of Crimea. According to Defense Intelligence representative Vadym Skibitskyi, such allegations by the FSB is one of the elements of incitement and destabilization of the situation in Ukraine: "provocation is an element of the hybrid war which the Russian Federation is waging against us."
