Worrying similarity of current situation in Ukraine with that in Georgia in 2008, - Saakashvili

Ukraine should be in full alert regarding Russia.

Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said the Ukrainian authorities should be in full alert and extremely cautious the next two or three weeks, Censor.NET informs citing 112 Ukraine.

According to him, current situation in Ukraine reminds that in Georgia in 2008, prior to Russia' s full-scale invasion into the country.

"The Olympics, the end of tenure of the U.S. administration - it's just like in Georgia in 2008. Many other things are taking place that do not allow concentrating. And people grew tired of Ukraine. This is why the next few weeks we should be extremely cautious. But I believe the Ukrainian authorities are well aware of this," Saakashvili said.

Earlier, former Georgian President Saakashvili said that Georgia downed 12 Russian bombers during the 2008 intervention thanks to aid from Ukraine.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius said on the anniversary of Russian-Georgian war that sanctions against Russia should be extended.
