Savchenko goes on hunger strike to protest against authorities' nonfeasance in releasing Ukrainian prisoners

Ukrainian MP Nadiia Savchenko, who herself had been released from political imprisonment in Russia several months ago, has announced going on a hunger strike to protest against authorities' inactivity in prisoners' release.

As reported by Censor.NET citing 112 Ukraine, she said this at a press conference on Tuesday.

"One of the mechanism for my release was a hunger strike against nonfeasance of Ukrainian authorities. From this day on, I again go on a hunger strike in response to inactivity of the global establishment in regards to release of prisoner Ukrainians. I will continue the strike until we see a positive result," Savchenko said.

As reported, Savchenko went on hunger strikes several times during her imprisonment in Russia. She ended her most recent strike upon a request of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.

According to official data of the Ukrainian authorities, 10 Ukrainian hostages are held in jails of the Russian Federation, another 109 people are held hostages in the occupied territories of Ukraine's east.
