Fire at Honcharivske training ground localized: Summer Storm-2016 drills suspended, - Ukrainian Armed Forces

20 fire engines have been involved in putting out a blaze that broke out at the military training ground near the village of Honcharivske in the Chernihiv region.

Censor.NET reports referring to Interfax-Ukraine citing Ukrainian Ground Forces press service.

"The grass is still burning. 20 State Emergency Service fire engines have arrived at the scene," an agency's source said on Friday afternoon.

According to the source, as of 4 p.m. Friday, the fire is localized, its cause being established.

The agency has also been told about the suspension of the active phase of the command and staff exercise "Summer Storm-2016" that started in the Chernihiv region on July 11 and was to be completed on July 15.

On Friday, 15 July, a fire broke out at the Honcharivske training ground, affecting the area of about 10 hectares. According to the Chernihiv Regional State Administration, fire-fighting is complicated by the ongoing explosion of ordnance. As reported by the chief of the State Emergency Service, the fire occurred over shooting drills.

The command and staff exercise "Summer Storm-2016" is currently taking place at the Honcharivske training ground.

Earlier, three soldiers made a fire at the Honcharivske training ground in an insecure area close to a shooting range, which triggered the explosion of an unknown object. As a result, two soldiers died and one was wounded.
