According to the Staff, the decision, in particular, was taken due to the spread of pictures and video of the combat positions of the Ukrainian detachments, as well as due to cooperation with the Russian media. The Brigade servicemen urge the ATO Staff to withdraw accreditation of Hromadske TV journalists to carry out activities in the ATO area in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions until the circumstances are clarified.
According to the ATO Staff press center, July 6, 2016, journalists for Hromadske TV Anastasia Stanko and Kostiantyn Reutskyi were making a story in the industrial area of Avdiivka village, which is defended by the Ukrainian Airborne troops. They were also accompanied by correspondent for the Russian Novaya Gazeta news outlet Yuliya Polukhina who was introduced by the Hromadske TV journalists as a member of their team.
"It was not the first visit of Stanko and Reutskyi to the industrial area, so the commandoes knew them well. These journalists have filmed strikes on our positions committed by the Russian occupation troops and bodies of two Ukrainian soldiers killed by a shell that hit the dugout. This story was published on the website of Hromadske TV on the morning of July 8. The industrial zone defenders watched it and appealed to the TV channel's administration to delete the footage, which was completed. This story was shortly published on the website of Novaya Gazeta while Yuliya Polukhina was named as its author. The video was soon shared throughout the Internet, the Russian media, and websites of the so called "DPR". This fact outraged the Ukrainian community and, above all, the commandoes defending the industrial area in Avdiivka. This video clearly showed positions of commandos, their faces and weapons, objects that could be potentially used by the enemy as reference points. This is a gross violation of the rules governing journalists' work in the ATO zone," the statement reads.
The ATO Staff press center emphasizes that there is nothing more precious than the life and health of Ukrainian soldiers, therefore, the journalists grossly violating this principle in their work will be taken appropriate measures against.
Supporting the initiative of the Ukrainian airborne troops defending Avdiivka's industrial zone, the ATO Staff press center has requested the Security Service of Ukraine to suspend the accreditation of reporters for Hromadske TV Anastasia Stanko and Kostiantyn Reutskyi as well as special correspondent for Novaya Gazeta Yuliya Polukhina until the circumstances are clarified.
"The Ukrainian Armed Forces' Airborne troops Command supports the request of the personnel of the 81st Separate Airmobile Brigade to withdraw accreditation of Hromadske TV journalists Stanko and Reutskyi and correspondent for Novaya Gazeta until the circumstances are clarified," Airborne troops Command press service Head Ruslan Linnyk stressed.
