Kerry: Ukraine moves forward though much remains to be done

The United States stresses the importance of proceeding with reforms in Ukraine.

This was announced by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry at a joint briefing with President Petro Poroshenko, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrainski Novyny.

According to the American politician, Ukraine is without doubt moving forward, while there is still much to be done, including strengthening Ukraine's democracy and concentrating on reforms.

Kerry added he had had a talk with Poroshenko and other Ukrainian leaders on such issues as purging the prosecutor's office and the judiciary, fighting against corruption, removing oligarchs from power, strengthening the financial system, privatizing country's economy, and improving the domestic business climate in order to attract investments.

Kerry noted that Ukraine has already achieved a lot in the way of reforms, especially given the ongoing military conflict in its territory.

As an example, he highlighted the creation of the patrol police and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, the increase in transparency of government's work, reforms in the energy sector and the adoption of amendments to the Constitution in terms of the judiciary and the public service.
