 Residents of Dnipro pay last tribute to two Ukrainian scouts killed in Donbas

The farewell ceremony to Mykola Andrushchenko and Serhii Lobov, scouts who died in Donbas on June 18, was held in Dnipro (former Dnipropetrovsk) today, June 21.

The servicemen perished while accomplishing combat task on June 18 at about 10 p.m. The deep reconnaissance company had installed wiretapping equipment and kept moving along the demarcation line. The commander ordered the main group to stop. He covered another 50 meters accompanied by two soldiers and triggered a tripwire-type mine.

74th Separate Reconnaissance Battalion Deputy Commander Major Pavlo Kompaniets told that Senior Scout, Private First Class Mykola Andrushchenko was in the lead when he triggered a booby-trap. He heard as it bounced up, shouted to warn his fellows and made another step forward to cover them by his body.

Company Commander Major Serhii Lobov was injured to the head. When the main group of scouts approached the explosion site, all three soldiers were conscious. Mykola Andrushchenko begged his fellows to leave him and save the other injured soldiers. He died first. The company commander drew his last breath on the way to the hospital. The injuries of arms and legs inflicted to Private Bumahin appeared to be not fatal. The tripwire activated the antipersonnel prefragmented bounding mine.

After the burial service at the military base, 28-year-old Serhii Lobov was buried in the Kharkiv region. In addition to parents and two brothers, he is survived by four-months pregnant bride.
