 Onyshchenko's self-confidence is due to parliamentary recess, - Kholodnytskyi

Anti-Corruption Prosecutor Nazar Kholodnytskyi believes that people's deputy Oleksandr Onyshchenko is behaving arrogantly due to a recess in the work of the Verkhovna Rada.

Kholodnytskyi told Ukrinform, Censor.NET reports.

"Onyshchenko is presumptuous because the Verkovna Rada is having a recess and will not consider stripping him of immunity at least until July 4. When the session met, he was abroad. After the session ended, he returned and went on TV to say how honest he was," the prosecutor said, commenting on Onyshchenko's coming to the NABU.

"If MPs delay removing his parliamentary immunity, then let the society and the people assess their work during election. If there is interest in the objective investigation of the case, the matter should be considered promptly," Kholodnytskyi added.

He believes that the law enforcement authorities have done everything necessary to bring Onyshchenko to responsibility and now it is up to the parliament.

Earlier, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine raided the office of MP Oleksandr Onyshchenko March 16. The NABU stated that the searches were carried out under the pretrial investigation of criminal case initiated into abuse of office during sale of the natural gas jointly extracted with Ukrhazvydobuvannia SE.

NABU searched MP Onyshchenko's formal chamber for the second time June 15.

Prosecutor General's Office received a motion of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) to lift the immunity of the people's deputy Oleksandr Onyshchenko.

Anti-Corruption Prosecutor Nazar Kholodnytskyi and NABU Director Artem Sytnyk claimed that Volia Narodu MP Onyshchenko appropriated 1,6 billion hryvnia (approx. $64 million).

Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yurii Lutsenko has drafted a motion requesting the Verkhovna Rada's consent to criminal prosecution, detention and pretrial confinement of lawmaker Oleksandr Onyshchenko June 16.
