Canada to further defend Ukraine's sovereignty, - Trudeau

Canada will continue to support Ukraine in the fight against Russia.

Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau said in his speech at the Canada-Ukraine Business Forum in Toronto, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.

"Canada will continue to defend Ukraine's sovereignty in response to Russia's illegal annexation of Crimea as well as its support to insurgents in eastern Ukraine," Trudeau stated.

He also added that Canada will support the process of reforms in Ukraine.

"And we will continue to stand firmly beside Ukraine as you lead important reform efforts in your country, including directly supporting efforts to strengthen democracy, respect the rule of law, and encourage economic growth," Trudeau said.

According to the prime minister, this was the reason why the Canadian government made the signing of Canada-Ukraine free trade agreement a top priority.

Trudeau noted that Canada will continue to share its experience, seeking to help Ukraine achieve stability and strengthen its middle class.

He is convinced that by working together, Canada and Ukraine will ensure greater economic prosperity, security, and independence for the Ukrainians.

In Toronto Monday, Canada-Ukraine Business Forum took place. It was attended by about 500 participants, including a large Ukrainian governmental delegation headed by First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Stepan Kubiv. The Canadian side, in addition to numerous entrepreneurs, was represented by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Minister of International Trade Chrystia Freeland, the parliamentary secretaries to the ministers of international development and immigration, the prime minister of the province of Ontario, as well as several members of parliament.
