Appeals court reverses arrest and bail of 5 mln hryvnia for Vyshhorod mayor Momot

The Appeals Court of Kyiv has reversed arrest and the 5-million-hryvnia bail ($200,000) for Vyshhorod city (the Kyiv region) Mayor Oleksii Momot, suspected of bribery.

This was announced by presiding judge, Censor.NET informed citing Ukrainski Novyny.

"The panel of judges ruled that the decision of the investigating judge on setting arrest and a 5-million-hryvnia bail as a measure of pre-trial restriction should be reversed," he said.

According to the judge, the decision of the Appeals Court could not be appealed.

As reported, on April 14, SBU detained Vyshhorod mayor, who allegedly demanded a bribe of 1 mln EUR, and his five middlemen. According to law enforcers, he demanded the money from a representative of a construction company for non-termination of a contract for construction.

April 17, the Pechersk district court of Kyiv chose detention for two months with a right to bail for 5 million hrynvia as a pre-trial restriction for Momot. The bail was posted April 18.

On May 24, the Kyiv regional prosecutor's office announced that they had transferred the case of Momot to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau.
