Ukraine to refuse gas import by 2020, - Minister Nasalyk

By increasing production, energy efficiency, and energy saving measures, Ukraine intends to completely abandon the import of gas by 2020.

As reported by Censor.NET citing Interfax-Ukraine, it was announced by Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Ihor Nasalyk.

"Within exactly five years - from 2016 to 2020 - we'll be able to move to the point, and I am deeply convinced that we will: we'll stop to import gas from the territory of other states," he said at the congress "Energy Spring 2016" in Kyiv on Thursday.

According to Nasalyk, the measures introduced and proposed by the ministry will increase natural gas production by 7-7.5 billion cubic meters per year during the period in question.

As previously reported with reference to the State Statistics Committee, in 2015, Ukraine imported 16.48 billion cubic meters of gas totaling $4.512 billion, including from Europe - 10.34 billion cubic meters for the amount of $2.836 billion, from the Russian Federation - 6.138 billion cubic meters for the amount of $1.677 billion.
