No elections possible in Donbas in few years, - Committee of Voters

It will not be possible to hold elections in the occupied areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions in upcoming years.

As reported by Censor.NET citing 112 Ukraine TV channel, this was announced by head of the Committee of Voters of Ukraine Oleksii Koshel on air of 5 Channel.

According to him, in addition to the war and armed citizens, another problem is lack of voters' registry.

"The second [issue] is that a number of displaced persons - who would want to return or would not - have the right to vote. This issue would take up to six months, another 12 months are needed to conduct the process in full," Koshel said.

In addition, according to him, the election process should be accompanied by the process of screening of those persons who have violated the law.

"I firmly believe that the process of screening should take place. This means that people who qualify for elected posts - deputies of village councils or regional center mayors - should go through screening. They shouldn't have had weapons in their arms, shouldn't have made public statements against official Kyiv. Again, the screening process will take years," Koshel noted.

The Committee's head stressed that the fact no elections are possible in the Donbas in upcoming years does not mean than "official Kyiv should not make such statements, as well as do its best to set this process."

As reported earlier, OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier said that the situation in the east of Ukraine started to look like "a frozen conflict."Источник: https://censor.net.ua/en/n388755
