Moscow court arrests Russian oligarch Grigorishyn in absentia

Basmanny court in Moscow has sanctioned arrest in absentia of Russian billionaire of Ukrainian origin Konstantin Grigorishyn, accused of tax evasion in amount of 675 million rubles ($10.11 million).

This was stated by Judge Artur Karpov in his ruling, announced after consideration of a petition by investigators, Censor.NET informs citing Interfax.

The court granted the investigators' petition and chose a restraint measure - an arrest, the ruling reads.

If apprehended, Grigorishyn will be placed in custody for two months.

Investigator Andrey Ponomarev said at the hearing that to cover damages under the case, an amount of 916.912 million rubles needs to be paid. It includes the damages and fines.

The businessman has been accused of tax evasion in a large amount and put on the international wanted list. The term of preliminary investigation has been prolonged until June 8.

The investigation believes that Grigorishyn and his alleged partner evaded from paying taxes in amount of almost 675 million rubles in 2009-2010, which caused damage to the budget of the Russian Federation.

The investigation has arrested Grigorishyn's property within the criminal proceedings: two apartments and a house in Moscow's downtown, and a house in Moscow area.

Russian businessman Grigorishyn was born in Zaporizhia, Ukraine, and owns assets in numerous Ukrainian energy and other companies. Forbes named Grigorishyn #75 in the list of the richest businessmen in Russia, with assets of $1.1 billion.
