PACE urges Ukraine to ratify Rome Statute

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe calls on Ukraine to ratify the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.

Censor.NET reports quoting PACE resolution.

"Ukraine should ratify in the shortest possible time the Rome Statute in order to allow the International Criminal Court to conduct effective investigations into concrete cases of violations of international humanitarian law during the war in Ukraine," the resolution reads.

In 2000, Ukraine signed the Rome Statute - the international treaty on the International Criminal Court, but has not ratified it yet.

The ICC has considered and continues to consider the cases of more than three dozen people accused of crimes against humanity and genocide. The maximum penalty a convicted may get is thirty years in prison, and in separate special cases - a life sentence.
