Cases against Pshonka, Kuzmin, Sorkin, and Yakymenko not closed but suspended, - PGO

Criminal proceedings against former Head of the SBU Oleksandr Yakymenko, former Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka, former Deputy Prosecutor General Renat Kuzmin, and former Head of the National Bank Ihor Sorkin are not closed but suspended.

PGO prosecutor Vladyslav Kutsenko said at a briefing in Kyiv, Censor.NET reports citing UNIAN.

"The media have reported about the suspension of these cases. I would like to elaborate on the situation," he said.

"What is the suspension of a case? There is an article 280 of the Criminal Procedure Code, stipulating the grounds and procedure for the suspension of a pre-trial investigation. So, when a person is hiding from law enforcement, it is reasonable and a common practice to suspend proceedings in order to prevent the expiry of investigation period," Kutsenko said.

According to him, "if a person is absent and we can't get in touch with them, the investigation period expires, and the lawyers will legitimately demand to close the case."Источник: https://censor.net.ua/en/n385548
