"I'd like to express gratitude to European Commission on behalf of Ukrainian people," - Poroshenko's address on EC's proposal to introduce visa-free regime

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko delivered address regarding the proposal of European Commission to introduce visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens.

Censor.NET reports citing the president's press office.

He said: "Today, Brussels delivered the long-awaited news. President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker has just informed me that the European Commission had proposed to the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament to introduce the visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens.

"For me personally it was a long path of hard diplomatic and internal political work. I remember every step on this path, every decision, almost every letter in the visa-free legislation. Generally, we have fulfilled a plan, which contained almost 140 conditions. Its main conditions are related to the new efficient security system and fight against corruption. Specifically the entire anti-corruption legislation is a condition for the abolition of visas.

"The visa-free regime has been my obligation to you. We will be able to mark it as "done" in a few months.

"We have implemented the reforms that have changed the country on our way to this decision. The EU highly evaluates and supports our reforms.

"On behalf of the Ukrainian people, I would like to express gratitude to the European Commission for this decision that makes us closer to the European family of nations.

"I am also grateful to the Verkhovna Rada, the Government, diplomats and, of course, civil society for their common work over the visa-free regime.

"Together we win. Glory to Ukraine! Glory to Europe!"
