World known writer and philosopher Umberto Eco passed away

Italian writer, linguist, and philosopher Umberto Eco, best known for his novel The Name of the Rose, has died at 84.

BBC informs, Censor.NET reports citing Interfax-Ukraina.

Umberto Eco was born not far from Turin, in the city of Alessandria in 1932.

In 1954, he graduated from the University of Turin, where he studied medieval philosophy and literature.

Umberto Eco worked on television; was a columnist of the Espresso newspaper, the largest in Italy; has taught aesthetics and cultural theory at the universities of Milan, Florence and Turin. He was later professor emeritus and chairman of the Higher School of Humanities of the University of Bologna.

In 2003, Eco became a Chevalier of the National Order of the Legion of Honour.

Since Sept. 1962, Eco was married to a German teacher of arts Renate Ramge and was a father of two children, a son and a daughter.
