Finance Minister Anton Siluanov told reporters, Censor.NET informs citing TASS.
He stressed that Kyiv had to pay off the debt on Dec. 21, 2015. The grace period to settle the dispute expired on Dec. 31. The ministry has allegedly never received any direct proposals from Kyiv.
"Today, the Finance Ministry of the Russian Federation has filed a lawsuit against Ukraine to London's High Court of Justice in order to recover the debt on Ukraine's bonds worth $3 billion and reimburse Russia's court costs," he said.
He also claims that Ukraine has allegedly refused to hold talks on the debt's settlement in the spirit of goodwill.
"The lawsuit has been filed after repeated unsuccessful attempts to encourage Ukraine to engage in constructive dialogue on debt restructuring and to recognize the fact that the Eurobonds owned by Russia are an official loan which is to be settled on terms better than those offered by Ukraine to its private creditors," the minister explained.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Finance has repeatedly said it was ready to negotiate with Russia on a fair restructuring of the Yanukovych's loan. Nevertheless, the Russian side did not accept these proposals.
