Several Crimean villages blacked out and frozen through breakdowns

Power supply networks and heating mains have been under repair in the villages of the Bilohirskyi district in the occupied Crimea since Jan. 18. In this regard, some areas in Tsvitochne village have been de-energized. People in Bilohirsk are experiencing the lack of heating.

As reported at the website of the so-called "government" of Crimea, another power system breakdown occurred in Chornopillia village within the same district in the morning on Jan. 19, Censor.NET reports citing Krym.Realii.

"As a result of a breakdown that occurred at 6:50 a.m. in Chernopillia village, a part of Nahirna street was de-energized, approximately 70-76 subscribers. Repair crews have arrived at the spot. Repair works are likely to last until 11 a.m. The transformer facility in Tsvitochne village is to be repaired until 11 a.m., the heating main in Bilohirsk - before lunch," the statement reads.

A sharp drop in temperature and wretched weather with heavy rain turning into snow and heavy local precipitation are expected in Crimea during Jan. 19. Slush build-up, skidding, sleet on the roads, blizzard, strengthening of the north-west wind up to 17-22 m/s. Daytime air temperature will drop to 1-6 degrees Celsius, night - 3-8 degrees below zero.

A breakdown was previously reported at an electrical substation, which led to a blackout in Trudove village of the Simferopol district. One village in the Dzhankoi district has also been de-energized.

Breakdowns in Crimea's power network have become regular. The Kuban power bridge [Russia's power supply line - ed.] is overloaded, while local power generation capabilities are not enough to ensure uninterrupted supply.

On Dec. 30, 2015, the Russian-occupied Crimea stopped receiving electricity from mainland Ukraine because of damage, probably as a result of an explosion, of a power pylon in the Kherson region. The 250 MW power line has been put into operation, but the electricity is not supplied to Crimea as the contract for its supply has expired.
