Open Skies Treaty between Ukraine and US enters into force, - Ukraine’s Infrastructure Ministry

The treaty to lift restrictions on air traffic between Ukraine and the United States signed in Washington July 14, 2015 has entered into force.

Censor.NET reports citing the statement by Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Volodymyr Omelian.

"The U.S. Embassy in Ukraine reported that all legal formalities have been completed, and the Treaty on the air traffic between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the United States has come into force," he wrote recalling that the Treaty on Open Skies was signed on July 14, 2015 and was ratified by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Nov. 4.

Volodymyr Omelian explained that the agreement introduced the following changes in air traffic between Ukraine and the U.S.:

- lifting of restrictions concerning the points of origin/arrival in the territories of both countries via any intermediate points and further to the points beyond;

- providing opportunities for airlines of both sides to operate with the right to pick up passengers in the foreign territory, who are traveling to the territory of any third country, as well as cargo and mail with the same destination point, and the right to let off passengers and unload cargo and mail sent from any territory in the country, which is party to the agreement;

- establishing random frequency and capacity of air services by carriers of both parties, as well as permission for an independent aircraft ground handling at the airports.
