Privates to be paid no less than 7,000 UAH under contract

Nonrated military personnel serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine under the contract will get no less than 7,000 hryvnia (about $280) monthly.

Ministry of Defense of Ukraine spokesman Oleksii Chornobai said, Censor.NET reports citing UNIAN.

"A nonrated serviceman will be paid no less than 7,000 hryvnia per month under the first contract, while a brigade commander will get more than 14,500 hryvnia," he said.

"The state budget for 2016 envisages the Defense Ministry expenditures in the amount of 55.5 billion (about $2.22 billion), or 2.45 percent of GDP. The budget of the defense agency has increased by 7.6 billion hryvnia (about $304 million), or 16 percent compared with last year," Chornobai said. According to him, 20 percent of the allocated funds, which is 11.4 billion hryvnia, are aimed for the upgrade of weapons and military equipment and six percent or 3.2 billion hryvnia - for the training of troops.

"The administrative support expenditures will amount to 6.5 billion hryvnia, one billion is envisaged for the payment of one-time allowances to servicemen and members of their families, 700 million - for construction of housing for military personnel," the Defense Ministry spokesman said.
