Situation in ATO zone has worsened

As of Jan. 7, the situation along the front line in the ATO zone has significantly worsened.

Press officer of the Joint Center on Control and Coordination of issues related to the cease-fire regime and the stabilization (JCCC) of the situation, Lieutenant Colonel Serhii Berets informed, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrainska Pravda

According to him, the situation in the ATO zone has worsened on Jan. 6-7. "The pro-Russian terrorists have once again confirmed that nothing is sacred for them as they carried out a record number (since the beginning of 2016) of attacks on Christmas Eve. All attempts to stop the terrorists' provocations with the help of Russian JCCC members have brought nothing," Berets added.

Berets said that he appealed to the administration of Donetsk Office of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) trying to convey them that Ukrainian government is not going to leave such cynical provocative shelling of the ATO forces' positions without prompt response. If militants continue their attacks, Ukrainian soldiers will be forced to use all available means to neutralize enemy firing points. The terrorists stopped only after such warnings.

However, the militants did not give up the intention to implement further military provocations.

"According to our information, the 'DPR' and 'LPR' militants have disposed a lot of armored vehicles and weapons in several directions along the front line on Jan.7, clearly indicating their intention to start massive provocative actions against Ukrainian troops with banned tanks and artillery systems in the nearest future," Berets said.

"The militants should realize that the Army commanders will not allow them shelling Ukrainian positions, jeopardizing the lives of our soldiers and civilians. All responsibility for the further escalation of the armed conflict will be assigned to the so-called 'DPR' and 'LPR' leaders and their Russian sponsors," the Lieutenant Colonel added.
