As reported by Censor.NET, it was announced by Head of the State Migration Service of Ukraine Maksym Sokoliuk at a press conference on Jan. 5.
He admits there may be errors in the first months and citizens are welcome to contact the SMS via its Facebook page, Skype, or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
Sokoliuk noted that the first phase provides for the new document to be issued free of charge to the citizens who have reached 16 years of age and apply for their first Ukrainian passport.
According to him, in order to replace an old passport in the form of a booklet by an ID-card, it is necessary that the Verkhovna Rada adopt the government bill No. 3224 on amendments to some laws of Ukraine regarding the documents confirming the citizenship of Ukraine, certifying the identity or its special status.
Sokoliuk hopes the parliament will pass the act in late January or early February.
