Crimea's blockade format to be changed, - Mejlis Chairman Chubarov

The blockade of the Russian-occupied Crimea will give up some of the functions as no longer necessary.

As reported by Censor.NET citing Krym.Realii, one of the blockade's initiators, Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov said at a press conference on Dec. 30.

"We are now reformatting Crimea's civil blockade and only a small number of our people will stay close to customs officers and border guards. They will only control the implementation of government's decree, watch that no smuggling is there," Chubarov said.

He added that a lot of functions "assumed" by blockade's participants had "ceased to exist."

Chubarov also commented on the accusations against the initiators of the blockade, in particular, the criticism on behalf of human rights defenders. According to the chairman of the Mejlis, the initiators of the blockade believed they opposed a common enemy represented by "the Russian state which acted as an aggressor towards Ukraine. And there is a man whose name we call as that of the enemy. This is Putin, president of the Russia Federation."
