This was announced by SBU speaker Olena Hitlianska at a briefing on Thursday, Censor.NET reports.
"Unfortunately, one of our servicemen, Alfa special detachment fighter, who was combating in the ATO area, was killed. He has many honors. But he was killed in Kyiv. In fact, he died saving a 7-year-old child, whose father joined the sabotage group," Hitlianska noted.
"We had to save the child first, and then to neutralize the saboteurs. He is saved at the expense of another life. No calculations here," she said.
Hitlianska also specified that this sabotage group was preparing terrorist acts in a number of Ukrainian cities.
SBU Chief of Staff Oleksandr Tkachuk announced that the soldier died in a hospital. Another Alfa fighter received wounds and is being treated.
He also noted that the search was conducted in Obolon district of Kyiv.
Tkachuk said the child was in fact a hostage of the situation.
