Victory would have been hard to achieve without volunteers but possible, - Poroshenko

Russia's military budget exceeds that of Ukraine fortyfold.

As reported by Censor.NET, the president said this during celebrations to mark the 24th anniversary of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

"Russia's military budget is 40 times as big as ours which we struggled to increase in 2014 and 2015, sparing no expense," the president said.

According to him, in 2013, the army received only two modernized aircraft and three combat vehicles.

"Under the conditions of a horrific economic and financial crisis, we have significantly increased our military budget in terms of hryvnia allocations and the share of military expenditures in GDP," Poroshenko said.

At the same time, he is confident that in dollar terms, defense spending "has increased insignificantly."

"If in 2012 and 2013, they [costs - ed.] accounted for $1.75 bln, this year it's about $2.2 bln," the head of state said.

"But we have dramatically increased the efficiency of the use of each budget kopeck paid by the Ukrainian taxpayers. I want to thank all volunteers who spared no efforts in the first hours, days, and months of the war, when the situation was the most difficult," Poroshenko said.

"Without this contribution, we would still have won. But it would have been much more difficult," the president noted.
