 Nine Eastern European countries call on NATO to expand its presence

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis declares that nine states in Eastern Europe have agreed to appeal to NATO to expand the presence of the Alliance in the region.

Censor.NET reports citing BBC Russian Service.

Iohannis specified that he considered it necessary to enhance security on the eastern borders of Europe and NATO and also mentioned the threat from the south, including from Syria.

According to the President of Romania, besides his country, the move has been supported by the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Hungary, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland. A formal request will be submitted to the NATO at the summit of the Alliance, which will be held Nov 4. All mentioned states will participate in the summit.

The Eastern European countries have been increasingly expressing concerns regarding their security in recent years due to the aggressive posture of the Kremlin.
