OPORA NGO calls cancellation of second round mayoral election in Pavlohrad "blatant legal nihilism"

OPORA NGO coordinator Olha Aivazovska believes that the cancellation of the second round of Pavlohrad mayor elections is blatant nihilism.

She commented on the amendment of the Pavlohrad election system, where two candidates reached the second round of mayor election, those being Opposition Bloc member Anatolii Vershyna and Donbas war veteran Yevhen Terekhov, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrainska Pravda.

"This is the first such blatant legal nihilism in the history of elections in Ukraine," Aivazovska said.

She explained that the chance of not holding the second round in Pavlohrad due to decrease in the number of voters after received updated voters lists is a unique situation. She said this was an amendment to the voting system before the end of the voting process.

Yesterday, the Central election committee decided to cancel repeated voting in Pavlohrad, saying there were fewer than 90,000 voters in the constituency.
