Fugitive oligarch Kurchenko's petroleum no longer arrested

The Pechersk district court of Kyiv has removed the arrest of petroleum products used as physical evidence in criminal proceedings with respect to illegal import and sale in the territory of Ukraine of petroleum products belonging to the firms of fugitive oligarch Serhii Kurchenko.

It is stated in the decision of the Pechersk district court of Kyiv of Oct. 22, 2015 entered in the Unified State Register of Judgments, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.

According to investigating judge Svitlana Smyk, the petroleum products, kept in the territory of the Odesa oil refinery, are no longer subject to arrest as they are absent in the place.

The decision was made following a claim by the executive director of the Odesa oil refinery who appealed to the investigating judge to remove the arrest of property, as, according to him, it had been arrested groundlessly.

Moreover, the investigator in the case did not attend the trial and submitted no objections to the above claim.

The litigation around the Odesa oil refinery began in March last year after attempts by Veteko company, headed by "Yanukovych's accountant" businessman Kurchenko, to transfer the assets of the company under the mediation of Russia's VTB Bank to Rosneft. Kurchenko fled Ukraine at that time. After law enforcers checked the refinery, it was established that the produced petroleum products, which were to be exported, in fact, had not been sent abroad. In order to prevent an unauthorized withdrawal of about 65,000 tons of the products, the armed state guard arrived at refinery's territory on Nov. 22. In November 2014, following the decision of the investigating judge at the Prymorskyi district court of Odesa, a permission was granted to change the storage location of the physical evidence (petroleum) that had been previously arrested.Источник: https://censor.net.ua/en/n357865
